Picking out pregnancy-safe skincare can seem complicated. I have an entire page on pregnancy beauty dedicated to which skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or IVF.
And yes, deodorants and antiperspirants (including those containing aluminum) are generally safe to use during pregnancy.
However, pregnancy calls for greater scrutiny of the chemicals you put on your body, and the product you are using currently may not be the best option if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
Although aluminum in antiperspirants is considered safe for use during pregnancy, if you prefer to avoid it, you can use a deodorant, as it’s not found in deodorants.
I have addressed this concern with aluminum (and the safety of deodorants as well) in a previous blog post, which I will link here:
Are deodorants and antiperspirants safe during pregnancy?
There are many pregnancy-safe deodorants and antiperspirants that are safe during pregnancy, and here is a list of the best pregnancy-safe deodorants and antiperspirants that I have curated for you.
As always, all my pregnancy recommendations (at the time of writing) are free of:
- Parabens
- Phthalates
- Triclosan
- Benzophenone 3 (also known as oxybenzone)
All of the above four are endocrine disruptors. They interfere with the normal functioning of the endocrine system and the reproductive and other biological processes that it regulates. - Added artificial fragrance
Unless specified as phthalate-free, artificial fragrances are a rich source of phthalates. They can also be a skin irritant, especially during pregnancy, when the skin becomes more sensitive due to hormonal changes. - Formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers
These have been linked to cancer and are also known skin irritants.
*Always consult your treating doctor before starting any beauty regimen. They are the best people to guide you based on your needs and medical history.
Reminder: Companies frequently change their formulas, and the ingredient list may also vary by country. Hence, always check the ingredient list before using any product.

Best pregnancy-safe antiperspirants
*By definition, an antiperspirant reduces perspiration from the skin by blocking the pores. Currently, aluminum and Sofdra are the only FDA-approved topical antiperspirants. Everything else is technically a deodorant that only masks odor.
(Sofdra is a new prescription drug that was approved in 2024. Currently, there is not enough evidence to suggest whether it is safe to use while pregnant.)
Every product on this list contains aluminium, which is safe to use as a deodorant while pregnant.
