We had a minor chaos at home today. Early morning, Kamla, my rescued dog, was frantically scratching the bedroom door when we were asleep.
Now, this was compelling as she had been trained not to scratch doors. I rushed out the door expecting all sorts of scenarios in my over-imaginative mind, and saw her running to and fro from the main door to me. I realized she needed to go out to do her ‘business.’
I was in a daze as I had slept late and had barely 4 hours of sleep in me- but you gotta do what you gotta do.
I open the door, and she shoots off like a bullet. Down the three floors of our apartment complex, she runs- not pausing even once- whilst before, she would stop at every landing, look back at me, and wait for me to catch up.
Anyway, she did her ‘business,’ both the long and short end of it.
The last time she had scratched frantically was a few weeks ago at 12 am midnight! I thought she was just being greedy for more ‘out time’- something she occasionally is guilty of. She was reprimanded with a ‘‘bad-dog’’ bark from me, and the door was blocked with a chair. I woke up the next morning with major poop pee all over the house and a calm dog dozing peacefully.
I proceeded to do what any person who is annoyed to wake up to fecal matter in her house would do. I cleaned it up quietly, went on with our daily routine, and made a mental note to be more receptive the next time she tries to communicate with me.
And that, dear readers, was what led to today’s only a minor chaos.
Takeaway
Our dogs communicate with us to the best of their ability. Listen.
(Note: Kamla, like all dogs, is a creature of habit. She has her fixed timing and routine when she does her doggy business. Instances mentioned here are rather rare.)
Trivia

Dogs were the first animals to be domesticated. The oldest domesticated dog bone found in Razboinichya cave in the Altai Mountains of Siberia is 33,000 years old. Compare this to the time frame of the birth of Jesus Christ, who was born a little over 2,200 years ago.
